Privacy Policy
//Ad is a browser extension that blocks advertisements, trackers, and malware domains. This policy explains what data the extension touches — and more importantly, what it doesn't.
What //Ad Does
//Ad intercepts network requests in your browser and blocks those that match known ad networks,
tracking scripts, and malware domains. All blocking is performed locally on your device using
Chrome's built-in declarativeNetRequest API. No traffic is rerouted through any
external server.
Data We Collect
✓ We collect nothing. Zero. Full stop.
Specifically, //Ad does not collect:
- Browsing history or URLs you visit
- Personally identifiable information
- IP addresses or location data
- Clicks, keystrokes, or user activity
- Page content or website data
- Crash reports or diagnostics
- Extension usage analytics
Where Your Data Goes
Nowhere. All data generated by the extension — your block counts, whitelist entries, and filter preferences — is stored exclusively in Chrome's local storage on your own machine. It never leaves your device.
Permissions Explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- declarativeNetRequest / declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess — Required to apply blocking rules and per-site whitelist overrides across all websites.
- declarativeNetRequestFeedback — Used solely to count how many requests were blocked so the popup can show you an accurate number. No request details are stored or transmitted.
- storage — Saves your preferences (filter settings, whitelist) locally on your device only.
- tabs — Reads the URL of the active tab so the extension can show per-site block counts and enable the site toggle. No browsing history is recorded.
- Host permission (<all_urls>) — Required for blocking rules to apply to any website you visit. Without this, ad blocking cannot function.
Network Requests
//Ad makes zero outbound network requests of its own. It does not phone home, check for updates, ping any server, or communicate with any external service. All blocking rules are bundled inside the extension package at install time.
Third Parties
None. //Ad has no analytics provider, no backend server, no user accounts, and no third-party SDKs. We do not sell, share, or transfer any data to any third party because there is no data to sell.
Tip Jar
//Ad is free. If you choose to leave a tip, you will be directed to Ko-fi, an independent payment platform. That transaction occurs entirely between you and Ko-fi. //Ad has no visibility into tip transactions and receives no data from them.
Updates & As-Is Use
//Ad is provided as-is. The blocking rules in any given version are fixed at the time of release. Updates to the extension — including updated rule lists — may be released in the future but are not guaranteed. This privacy policy applies to all versions of the extension.
Children's Privacy
//Ad does not collect any data from anyone, including children. The extension is suitable for general use and complies with applicable privacy regulations by virtue of collecting no data whatsoever.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy ever changes, an updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date. Since no data is collected, any changes would only ever be clarifications rather than expansions of data use.
